Engineering teardown notes.
SONOFF 3D Brand Experience // Hands-On Hardware Lab
Rather than publishing isolated text reviews, Top Tech Reveal engineered an interactive living digital twin of SONOFF's 2026 smart home suite. We physically wired, bench-tested, and deployed the NSPanel Pro Gen 2, SenseGuard 24GHz Radar (SNZB-06P), and SwitchMan ZBM5 switches (US 120 & EU 86) into a unified local mesh with zero cloud dependencies.

SONOFF NSPanel Pro (Gen 2)
The NSPanel Pro Gen 2 serves as the compute and coordination core of our local testing rig. Mounted directly in our Romania lab test bench and tested over extensive daily routines, the unit acts as an embedded Android-based touch computer and Zigbee 3.0 / Matter-over-Wi-Fi gateway.
- Quad-Core ARM SoC: Rockchip PX30 (4x Cortex-A35 @ 1.5GHz) with 2GB DDR3 RAM and 8GB eMMC flash for responsive UI rendering and local automation caching.
- 3.95" High-Density IPS: Crisp 480×480 px capacitive multi-touch display providing vibrant off-axis viewing angles for room thermostat dials, camera streams, and lighting scenes.
- Radio Architecture: Silicon Labs EFR32MG21 Zigbee 3.0 coordinator paired with 2.4GHz 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Low Energy 4.2.
- Dual Built-In Relays: The Gen 2 introduces onboard physical relay outputs, enabling both direct circuit switching and smart wireless scene dispatching.
- Dual Operating Environments: Tested with stock eWeLink OS as well as unlocked Android ADB sideloading for native Home Assistant Lovelace wall dashboards.

SONOFF SenseGuard SNZB-06P (24GHz mmWave)
Standard Passive Infrared (PIR) sensors detect heat across optical facets, meaning a stationary person sitting still reading or working at a desk will inevitably trigger a "No Motion" timeout. The SNZB-06P resolves this through active 24GHz millimeter-wave microwave Doppler radar.
- Sub-Millimeter Chest Micro-Motion: Emits continuous 24GHz electromagnetic waves, measuring phase shifts caused by chest expansions during natural human respiration.
- Continuous USB-C Power Architecture: Battery-operated PIR sensors are forced to sleep 60 to 120 seconds between events to conserve battery life. By using continuous 5V USB-C power, the SNZB-06P maintains real-time polling with sub-180ms occupancy clearing.
- Illuminance Threshold Gating: Onboard optical light sensor allows automations like: "Engage living room lights ONLY when presence is active AND room lux drops below 30".
SONOFF SwitchMan ZBM5: US 120 vs European 86 Teardown
Top Tech Reveal evaluated both regional variants of SONOFF's flagship tactile mechanical smart switch series—verifying junction box depth, relay tactile feedback, and No-Neutral European wiring.
ZBM5 120 Type (3-Gang, White)
Standard 120×74mm rectangular profile engineered for standard single-gang US electrical junction boxes or multi-gang horizontal modular setups.
- 3 Independent Tactile Rockers: Satisfying physical micro-switch actuation with quiet internal dampening.
- Decoupled Smart Mode: Button presses transmit Zigbee scene commands while maintaining continuous live line power to smart bulbs.
- Status Backlights: Configurable micro-LED indicators per gang (status / locate / off).
- Silicon Labs EFR32MG22: Ultra-responsive Zigbee 3.0 stack with 14ms bench latency.
ZBM5 80/86 Type (2-Gang, White)
European/UK standard 86×86mm square profile designed to fit round (60mm) European wall boxes and square British back boxes.
- No-Neutral Retrofit Support: Tested extensively in older residential loops without accessible neutral wiring.
- Community PR Merged: Configured and patched via Top Tech Reveal's collaboration with Zigbee2MQTT (PR #12814).
- Ergonomic Dual Rockers: Full-surface tactile plates with zero rocking wobble or flex.
- Mesh Repeater: Acts as a mains-powered Zigbee router when wired with neutral.
